Bill Carrahar has left floorings giant Carpetright a year after being hired to head up its burgeoning beds business.

Carrahar, the former boss of Benson for Beds, left Carpetright last month after joining in July 2011.

Bensons director Paul Burgham has also left Carpetright after joining at the same time as Carrahar last year.

The two were hired to head up the carpet specialist’s growing beds business. Carpetright laid out plans for a standalone beds business, opening stores under the ‘Sleepright by Carpetright’ banner, as revealed by Retail Week.

The first of the 10,000 sq ft stores opened in Uddingston, outside Glasgow, in November. It is understood only a handful have stores have opened since.

A Carpetright spokesman said the pair were on a one year contract which ran out in July, and that their departure is in line with that contract.

Carrahar is now working as a consultant while Burgham joined Oak Furniture Land as its head of retail.

Existing Carpetright director Steve Johnson, not to be confused with his namesake who chairs Dreams, now runs the beds business.
