German accessories retailer Bijou Brigitte plans to open up to 20 stores in the UK this year.

The retailer, which has more than 1,200 stores across Europe,currently has four UK stores, in Bromley, Croydon, High Wycombe and Uxbridge.

It is now on the hunt to expand its portfolio and is looking for stores between 600 sq ft and 1,000 sq ft in shopping centres. Property agent Cushman & Wakefield has been appointed to search for sites.

The retailer took its first unit in the UK in November 2008 at the Whitgift Centre in Croydon.
