Green defends 'credible performance'
Bhs posted a 3 per cent decline in like-for-like sales for the year to April today.

Owner of Bhs Philip Green (pictured) said: 'I believe our results for the last financial year represent a credible performance. The middle market continues to be challenging, turnover being down 4 per cent for the year to date.'

Bhs reported total sales of£889.2 million in the 53 weeks to April 2, as operating profits fell 5.8 per cent to£105.1 million.

Former Selfridges marketing director Beverley Churchill has been appointed as marketing director. Green said she would be 'working with me to develop all aspects of the brand'.
