Electricals retailer plans growth
US consumer electricals and electronics retail giant Best Buy is seeking further international opportunities following its decision to open in Shanghai, China.

The 900-store retailer is only present in the US and Canada at present, but chief executive officer Brad Anderson believes there are further opportunities globally. However, he said opening standard Best Buy stores may not be the best way to exploit these opportunities.

Best Buy offers a range of services in the US, including installation team and the self-proclaimed geek-squad, which sort out customer technology problems.

Anderson said that the retailer would be interested in offering services for 'un-met needs' in other markets and admitted that Best Buy would need to be 'pretty confident' it could do that before entering a mature market such as France or Germany.

Best Buy appointed Robert Willett as chief executive of its newly formed international division in January and achieved sales of US$30.8 billion (£16.49 billion) last year.

Its 80,000 sq ft (7,430 sq m) store in Shanghai will open later this year and will be badged as Best Buy.
