The new project lies between Berkeley's existing riverside development and Woolwich town centre. Designed by award-winning architects Broadway Malyan with Sergison & Bates, the project centres on the Thames waterfront, and includes a new commercial square and public open spaces. From 2008 the site will be served by an extension to the Docklands Light Railway and by the planned Greenwich Waterfront Transit scheme.
The London Development Agency is encouraging regeneration in the area. Its executive director for regeneration and development, Tony Winterbottom, said: 'From a derelict site a few years ago, the Royal Arsenal has become an exemplar for development in the Thames Gateway. As well as new homes, this next phase will connect the development to Woolwich town centre and bring in the facilities and services needed to act as a magnet for further private investment.'
