Outdoor specialist Berghaus is to open a second store in the UK and has laid out plans to enter the Chinese market next year.

The store will open at London’s Covent Garden in October. The design of the store follows on from its first UK store at the MetroCentre in Gateshead.

In China, the retailer has signed an exclusive licensee agreement with Symphony Resources, a subsidiary of Symphony Holdings, to open 200 stores from autumn next year. It will also seek to operate concessions in other stores in China.

“As Berghaus continues its development into one of the world’s top five outdoor brands, Asia will be a key territory,” said Berghaus brand president Richard Cotter. “We have already made great progress in Japan and South Korea and have also created Berghaus Asia, a self-sufficient division based in Hong Kong that is an invaluable resource to support our Far East activities.”

In the UK, Matt Kemp has been appointed head of global retail and Mike Clark has been promoted to retail operations manager. Kemp was previously at Field & Trek and Clark has managed the brand’s MetroCentre store since it opened last year.
