B&Q marketing director Jo Kenrick is leaving at the end of this month as part of a restructure of the board.

The DIY retailer said it is changing the shape of its board to “refocus for the future and put real strength into best serving its customers through a clear commercial agenda”.

Kenrick will be replaced by Rob Bacon, chief operating officer at Carphone Warehouse, as B&Q combines marketing and employee engagement under one board director. Bacon will join B&Q as customer and employee brand director next year.

B&Q and Kingfisher UK Division chief executive Euan Sutherland said: “Having grown market share during 2008, now is the right time for B&Q to reform to sustain and increase that growth in 2009. A restructure at board level will gear the business to be more commercially aligned and link customer insight and brand to our internal employee brand development in one team.”

On the B&Q board Bacon will be joined by: Martyn Phillips, operations director; John Colley, commercial director; Andy Wiggins, services and multi-channel director; James Skelton, finance and IT director; Tim O’Connell, supply chain director; and Terry Hartwell, group property director.

During her time at B&Q Kenrick “markedly” improved the effectiveness of B&Q’s advertising through the reintroduction of staffer adverts and successfully negotiated and won the TV sponsorship rights to Channel 4’s 4homes.
