Customer base almost doubles in 12 months
Asos has become the latest internet retailer to announce rocketing sales with an increase of 93 per cent in the six months to September 30, as a result of its customer base nearly doubling since last year.

In a trading update to mark today's AGM the company said it had 1.1 million customers, up from 675,000 in October last year.

Asos chief executive Nick Robertson said: 'This is the result of the investment made last year in our buying and merchandising teams and the subsequent increase in the number of products available from 1,500 12 months ago, to 4,000 now.'

Robertson added that branded goods and footwear had sold 'particularly well,' but warned continued infrastructure investment would be reflected in the company's interim results on November 28.
