Asda Living retail director Roger McLaughlan is leaving the retailer to take up the role of UK managing director for Toys R Us.

McLaughlan, who has been with Asda since 2008, is expected to take up his position later this year.

He replaces David Rurka - who launched the US concept of Toys R Us in the UK - who stepped down in March.

Prior to joining Asda, he held roles at Marks & Spencer and footwear business Stylo. He is also a former chief executive of Floors-2-Go.

McLaughlan formed part of Asda’s plans to become number one in non-food in the UK, which included growing the Asda Living portfolio to 150 stores. However, Asda chief executive Andy Clarke said earlier this year that this ambition might take longer to achieve than previously thought.
