Retailers slash prices to ensure they get a happy Easter
Asda has announced it is slashing jeans prices by 25 per cent, from£4 to£3. The price change, which takes effect tomorrow is against a background of discounts over the Easter weekend from 29 other retailers.

Asda said that its George Jeans price cut represented a price investment on£2.5 million, but that no concession had been made to the garments' build. Quality testing of the products made them comparable to the Next, Gap Levi's and Diesel equivalents.

Newly appointed boss Andy Bond said: 'I'm delighted we can make this move because I know its going to make a real difference to millions of shoppers.'

The discount is just one of a range of discounts designed to entice shoppers out onto the high street this Easter. Williams de Broe analyst Gillian Hilditch noted that Easter falling early this year has meant that only 4 to 6 weeks has separated January Sales from Easter Sales, making it seem to shoppers that retailers have been permanently on Sale this year.
