Talks with GMB are successful
A strike ballot of Asda's distribution staff has been avoided, after talks between the GMB union and Asda's management came to a successful conclusion this morning.

General union GMB was due to ballot 25,000 members over pay and conditions for workers at the supermarket chain's 21 distribution centres.

Asda chief operating officer Andy Bond and acting general-secretary of the GBM Paul Kenny met today to discuss the dispute.

In a joint statement they said: 'We have both agreed an action plan to work together to form a National Joint Council for distribution and are now going to develop the detail of this arrangement.'
