Armani has agreed to become the second anchor at Milligan's 120,000 sq ft (11,150 sq m) Met Quarter development in Liverpool.

The retailer will take a 6,500 sq ft (605 sq m) double-level store on the scheme's Whitechapel frontage, joining the 21,000 sq ft (1,950 sq m) Flannels store as one of the key anchors.

Eric Eastman, managing director at Armani's agent Michael Peddar & Co, said that the deal 'represents a fulfilment of a requirement to place a high-end store in this substantial conurbation. The Met Quarter's position in the city of Liverpool is perfect for the Armani brand.'

Construction is due to begin in September this year, with opening scheduled in time for Christmas 2005.

Milligan chief executive John Milligan said: 'Active negotiations and deals in solicitors' hands account for 44 per cent of the total area of the Met Quarter. As the market realises that the development is happening, it is responding with great enthusiasm.'

SY Moorhouse Wright and Markham Vaughan Gillingham are the letting agents.
