Fashion group Americana, which owns brands Bench and Hooch, has appointed former Burberry Group chief operating officer Mike Metcalf as chairman.

Metcalf will be joined on the board by non-executive director Maurice Helfgott, who is involved with Long Tall Sally and Kookaï. He is also a former executive director at Marks & Spencer, where he looked after menswear, childrenswear, lingerie and home.
Americana chief executive Peter McGuigan said: “I am delighted Mike and Maurice are joining the board. They bring with them huge experience and expertise in the global lifestyle apparel sector and we will benefit greatly from their counsel.”

Americana has also appointed Rob Griffiths as head of product and marketing and Phil Emmerson as head of operations – who both join from Umbro. Patrick Nebiolo was hired as international director. He was previously managing director of Jam Session, which owns Italian streetwear brand Guru.

Private equity investor HgCapital funded the£190 million management buy-out of Americana in March this year. The retailer is focused on international growth and strengthening product range.
