Amazon has started to introduce its collection lockers into Martin McColl, the UK’s large independent convenience store chain.
The service, which allows customers to pick up or return Amazon orders in-store, has launched in about 30 Martin McColl’s as the etail giant continues to build its physical presence, The Times reports.
It already has lockers in 200 Co-op stores as well as within locations such as shopping centres and office blocks.
Amazon is stepping up its collection locker presence globally and has signed with Staples to roll-out within its stores in the US.
Meanwhile, the etailer is predicting that Monday, December 3 will be the busiest online shopping day in the UK this year. Orders are predicted to peak at 9.20pm on the day, known as Cyber Monday.
Amazon expects J K Rowling’s The Casual Vacancy, Prometheus on DVD, Mumford and Sons’ new album Babel, its Kindle e-reader and Hunter fleece welly socks to be among its best-sellers.
The week commencing November 19 is also expected to be a bumper one as Amazon is launching its “Black Friday Deal Week” for the third year in the UK. Black Friday is a US phenomenon where retailers offer major discounts on the day following Thanksgiving.
Last year Amazon.co.uk received orders for more than 3 million items, or 35 items per second over the 24 hour period.
