Alexon promises better trading as festive like-for-likes increase 2%

Fashion group Alexon reported like-for-like sales up 2 per cent for the six weeks to January 4. Last year the comparable figure was 15 per cent.

The retailer said its shoe chain, Dolcis, had finally turned the corner following changes to the buying team early last year and a wider product offering. Brands including Ann Harvey and Dash posted stronger trading, which increased their market share, while the Minuet concessions business expanded.

Alexon denied that Bay Trading and Style, which were both top performers last year, have weakened. 'Both will show positive like-for-likes for H2 and the year as a whole. The six weeks to January 4 were negative purely because Christmas 2001 was so strong,' according to the retailer. Alexon reported that Style and Bay Trading will show increased profits for 2002/03 over the previous year.
