B&Q has launched a £12m monthly bonus scheme for store staff to incentivise its workforce.

Around 30,000 shop floor staff will be eligible for the bonus, which is based on achieving individual store team targets.

The scheme was trialled over a three month period earlier this year, which resulted in 70 per cent of store employees benefiting from the bonus. The average pay out was £60 a month.

The retailer said the scheme is “innovative” as 95 per cent of retail employee bonus schemes are annual.

Chief executive of B&Q and Kingfisher UK Euan Sutherland said: “We want everyone at B&Q to be well-motivated and incentivised to do the best job we can for our customers in every single store every time they shop.  A monthly bonus scheme based on individual store targets and standards means everyone has the chance of making a difference to their own store team’s performance and being rewarded for doing so every month.”

Earlier this year the DIY giant launched a £9m store manager share scheme and a £1m training scheme.
