German discounter Lidl will spend around €100m (£75.4m) on modernising all of its Austrian stores by the end of 2016.
The investment will represent the grocer’s largest-ever investment programme in Austria since entering the market in 1998, according to Tiroler Tageszeitung.
On top of the store overhaul, a further €60m (£45.1m) will be invested in building a third regional warehouse in Wundschuh, Steiermark.
Lidl has already begun a store modernisation programme and last year updated branches in Kufstein, Imst, Lienz and Reutte.
The Reutte store is now the most modern of Lidl’s branches in Austria, with “the latest technology and the highest environmental standards,” according to Lidl Austria boss Alexander Deopito.
At present Lidl has 203 stores in the country, employing around 4,500 workers.
This year’s investment comes in addition to the €70m (£52.7m) Lidl poured into its Austrian business in 2013 and a €100m (£75.3m) investment last year.
