Argos predicts traditional toys will go head-to-head with their high-tech counterparts as it unveils its predictions for the top 13 Christmas toys.

Perennial favourites including Lego and Monopoly will vie for the top spot alongside the VTech Kidizoom toy smartwatch and the My Friend Cayla interactive doll, according to Argos.

Research from Argos showed demand for old favourites is still holding up, although computer games and computers top kids’ wish lists, with 50% and 69% respectively of the 1,000 children surveyed hoping for them this Christmas.

On the more traditional side some 40% of children would like arts and crafts presents, 40% want board games, 35% hope for construction toys and 33% want sports equipment.

Linzi Walker, chief toy buyer at Argos, said: “Toy trends develop and change every year, and although tech is now given a heavy focus, categories such as arts and crafts are a phenomenal trend this year. In many cases the more innovative and technologically advanced toys like Cayla are built upon the simple classics such as the toy doll.”
