Dixons Carphone has penned a deal with Three’s owner Hutchison Whampoa to offer mobile phone services.
The electricals retailer has struck an agreement with Three’s owner Hutchison Whampoa, which will allow Dixons Carphone to offer mobile phone contracts that let customers tailor their own price, minutes and data.
Customers buying other connected devices including laptops, tablets and TVs, or appliances from Carphone Warehouse or Dixons’ Currys and PC World, will be able to take out a contract at the same time.
The move comes after Dixons Carphone revealed its ambitions of expanding into the Internet of Things, which sees household appliances and devices connected to the internet.
Bosses at the electricals giant say that becoming a service provider could be worth up to £5bn to the retailer.
Dixons Carphone’s mobile service is yet to be given a name, but is expected to launch in the summer.
