New plans for the overhaul of Brent Cross Shopping Centre, including a covered network of streets lined with shops and anchored by three department stores, have gone out to consultation.
Developers Brent Cross Cricklewood Partners, comprising Hammerson and Standard Life, have made three amendments to the £4bn regeneration of the area, which was granted outline planning permission in 2010.
As outlined in the existing application, the shopping centre will be fully refurbishment with new stores, hotels, restaurants and leisure facilities developed on the current car park. Parking will be moved to multi-storey car parks around the development. No additional retail space has been added as part of the amendments.
The changes also include the introduction of a new pedestrian and cycle bridge over the North Circular road, to link the Brent Cross and Cricklewood communities, and the earlier delivery of transport improvements across the area.
Mike McGuinness, development director at Hammerson, said: “A network of covered streets and spaces at Brent Cross will provide a fantastic environment for shoppers and local people alike and a new wide green bridge over the North Circular Road for pedestrians and cyclists only will unite both sides of the road.”
A public exhibition of the plans will run from June 23 to July 6 and a finalised application will be submitted to Barnet Council later this year.
The Brent Cross Cricklewood regeneration, which has been mooted for more than 10 years, covers 350 acres from the existing shopping centre in the North, Hendon Way/A41 in the East, Cricklewood Lane in the South and Edgware Road in the West.
