George Davies’ GIVe brand has exited its Regent Street store a year after it first opened.

It was known that Davies – the fashion entrepreneur behind George at Asda and the successful Per Una range for Marks & Spencer-  was trying to exit the store, as well as the GIVe shop at Bluewater.

GIVe launched to much fanfare last year, opening its first store on Regent Street on October 1. It also operates department store concessions, which are understood to be trading robustly, as well seven standalone stores, including its Bluewater branch.

A handful of retailers have been vying to acquire the lease on Regent Street - which GIVe closed yesterday (Wednesday) - but it is unclear if any brand has signed to take on the lease yet.

Retailers wishing to open in the West End have found it hard in recent years, with a dearth of space available on the iconic shopping Meccas of Oxford Street and Regent Street.

It is understood the Regent Street and Bluewater stores are in the wrong locations for the kind of shopper that GIVe is aimed at - women aged 30-plus. Davies has described the brand as “affordable luxury”.
