The iconic food department store Fortnum & Mason has appointed two non-executives to its board including the former boss of Harrods.

Fortnum & Mason has appointed Marty Wikstrom, who was managing director of Harrods and is also a former executive of US retailer Nordstrom and was the chief executive of fashion and accessories at luxury goods company Richemont.

Fortnum & Mason has also hired Simon Vincent, president for the EMEA region for Hilton Worldwide. Both join the board – which is chaired by Kate Hobhouse, a member of the Weston family which owns the luxury food specialist – with immediate effect.

Wikstrom and Vincent join at a time of growth for Fortnum & Mason. The retailer last year opened its first new store in 300 years at St Pancras International station, followed in March by a shop in Dubai, its first overseas.

Hobhouse said: “We are thrilled to have Marty and Simon join us and can’t wait to start working with them.

“They have both got proven track records and have consistently delivered stand-out results for the high-end businesses they’ve worked with. Marty has more than 30 years experience with luxury brands, while Simon has impeccable e-commerce and travel credentials. They are very different areas of expertise but are increasingly relevant to our developing business.”
