Retail sales in the country rose for the first time in a year in January.

A slowdown in inflation and higher wages boosted household spending. Sales rose 0.3% on an annualised basis after a 3.6% drop in December, according to the Federal Statistics Service.

Consumer spending is set to boost Russia’s recovery with gross domestic product forecast to expand by 3.1% this year.
