HMV is closing its flagship technology store in Islington, London as new owner Hilco continues to attempt a turnaround of the entertainment chain.

The store’s last day of trading will be January 25.

The Islington store was HMV’s flagship technology-focused store under the retailer’s old management, who decided to strengthen its technology category in a bid to improve its fortunes in 2011.

An HMV spokesman said the closure was “not indicative of a change in direction” of the retailer’s strategy, which remains technology-focused.

The retailer collapsed into administration in January and has spent the last year fighting to improve its fortunes.

In September HMV returned to its Oxford Street flagship and in October launched its digital strategy and a new app, which enables customers to search for music they wish to purchase through sounds and images.
