Fashion etailer Asos has launched a dedicated US website as it hopes to tap into what it sees as the “enormous” potential of overseas sales.

AIM-listed Asos is promoting the new website, Us.asos.com, by giving US customers free delivery. It plans to launch French and German versions of its site later this year.

With Asos delivering to 167 markets, international sales account for 37% of total turnover.

While the retailer, which stocks designer and high street brands, is still experiencing strong sales growth in the UK, overseas sales more than doubled during the first quarter compared with 2009, growing 111%. Asos’s first-quarter revenue grew 54% to £61.7m.

Sales for its UK business were up 32% for the same period. Turnover for the year ending March 31 was up 95% to £63m.

In June, Asos chief executive Nick Robertson said the retailer aimed to reach turnover of £1bn within five years.

Asos is due to report its second-quarter sales figures on October 14.
