Woolworths has launched a price war on DVDs this week, with what it claims is an unprecedented offer to sell all chart releases for less than £10.

Today it will begin the four-week campaign – which will include its top 50 DVDs and new releases such as Sex and The City: The Movie – where it will sell chart releases at£9.90.

Woolworths hopes the move will cash in on the growing popularity of DVDs as the credit crunch forces more families to choose nights in over costly evenings out.

Woolworths trading manager Alan Hunt said: “Staying in is the new going out and over the next month it will be cheaper than ever before to buy a brand new film and settle down for a great night in.”
