David McLean Developments has bought a key retail site in the centre of Barry, South Wales, and has pre-let the entire 13,000 sq ft (1,205 sq m) scheme to discount chain Wilkinson.

The Barry store will be one of 25 outlets being opened by the retailer in England and Wales next year. By the end of 2005, Wilkinson expects to have 17 stores in Wales.

The developer has bought the site at 59-71 Holton Road - a temporary car park at present - from Vale of Glamorgan Council. The council and the Welsh Development Agency see the scheme as an important part of their strategy for the regeneration of the greater Barry area.

Chesterton advised Vale Glamorgan Council. King Sturge acted for David McLean.
