Westfield plans to build Britain’s biggest indoor ski slope next to the Olympic Park, London Mayor Boris Johnson has revealed.

Shopping centre developer Westfield, which currently operates the Westfield Stratford City shopping centre adjacent to the Olympic Park, will submit a planning application to the London Legacy Development Corporation for a ski centre by the end of the summer.

Johnson unveiled the plans at a City Hall event to mark the first anniversary of the London 2012 Olympics, according to the Financial Times.

The application is expected to include plans for shops, hotel and restaurant developments in addition to the ski slope.

The facility would be built on an abandoned site next to Westfield’s Stratford City shopping centre.

It would be comparable to Ski Dubai, located in the Gulf, which has a 400m slope.

Johnson also confirmed that the legacy corporation is in talks with University College London about establishing a campus on the Olympic Park site after talks with Newham council over a nearby site broke down in May.
