It features food, homewares and furnishings and fashion and beauty. In the first day, total sales were up by 43.6%.

Waitrose also opened a store on Tuesday at Westfield Stratford City. The 20,968 sq ft shop is its greenest store to date.

Hosiery sales were up by 28%.

Yesterday, Waitrose reported full year profits dipped slightly as it invested in the business while sales grew strongly.
