Business secretary Vince Cable is set to give a keynote address at the Retail Week Live conference on Wednesday where he is expected to unveil the Government’s international growth plan for UK retail.

Speaking on March 13 - a week before the Chancellor’s Budget on March 20 - Cable will be revealing Whitehall’s strategy to encourage UK retailers to grow overseas.

The announcement will include promoting exports of British luxury goods to emerging markets, such as India and China.

At the British Business Embassy Retail Global Business Summit held during the Olympics last year, the Prime Minister asked the Government’s business promotion arm UK Trade and Investment (UKTI) to devise the strategy to help boost UK retail.

Cable is regarded as one of the foremost thinkers on the economy, and has been credited by some with predicting the global financial crisis.

He will be addressing Retail Week Live at 9.55am, and is among other high profile figures to speak at the two day conference, including Mary Portas, Asda boss Andy Clarke and Asos chief executive Nick Robertson.
