Thresher Group is to offload 45 off-licences, as its private equity owners conduct a 100-day strategic review.
The stores will include outlets trading under Thresher Group’s various brand names: Haddows, The Local, Wine Rack and Threshers. The group has more than 2,000 stores.
Thresher has instructed Christie + Co’s corporate retail team to sell the stores, which are located in England, Scotland and North Wales, as going concerns.
In June, London-based private equity firm Vision Capital bought 75 per cent of Thresher for£250 million.
The remainder was retained by a consortium led by Edmund Truell.
Thresher will unveil the details of its 100-day strategic review in January. It is thought that the drinks specialist is considering expanding its wholesale business and launching a transactional website.
During the review, Thresher has put its franchisee recruitment programme on hold. Thresher is also rolling out a micro-convenience format, including a chilled food offer, to its Local stores.
In September, Thresher hired Yvonne Rankin as chief executive to replace Roger Whiteside. Patrick Copeland was appointed chairman this month.
