Upmarket homewares retailer The White Company has begun a consultation period with its employees.

Nineteen jobs are under review. It is not known whether they are in the head office or in stores.

A source close to the company said: “Like many businesses, White Company is facing some tough trading conditions. The management is in the process of implementing a small organisation change so the business is well prepared.”

No redundancies have been made yet, and the retailer aims to redeploy staff.

It is not known how long the consultation period will last.

Last year The White Company laid out plans to open 40 stores over the next five years, trebling its high street presence. It will focus on market towns such as Harrogate, Cheltenham and Cambridge.

It employs 650 members of staff and operates 26 outlets, inlcuding concessions.
