The chief executive of Tesco Thailand is to take a senior role at the grocer’s Fresh & Easy convenience store chain in the US.

It is understood that America-born Adams will become number two to Fresh & Easy chief executive Tim Mason, according to the Times, in what is the first signficant change to its executive team in the US. A Tesco spokesman said Adams’ job title had not yet been decided.

Fresh & Easy has 59 grocery markets open in Southern California, Nevada and Arizona and long-term plans for up to 1,000 stores in the US.

Tesco will invest US$2 billion (£982.7 million) over five years in Fresh & Easy.
