Luxury leather goods retailer Smythson has appointed Cavendish Corporate Finance to examine the possibilities for a sale of the business.

Smythson, whose creative director is Tory leader David Cameron’s wife Samantha Cameron, is reported to have received several expressions of interest in the business, according to the Telegraph.

Smythson was sold to a consortium led by Goldman Sachs banker Mike Sherwood in 2005.

Since then it has doubled its turnover and is expected to have sales of£20m in the year March 2009.
