Product identical to Boots No7 and Botanics lines is being sold in Poundland at a much lower price, it has emerged, potentially embarrassing the health and beauty giant.

Researchers from consumer website MoneySavingExpert who peeled off labels from Poundland’s Pure face, body and bath range – which cost £1 - found others underneath showing that they included products such as Botanics Foaming Bath Float, which would have cost £4.99 in Boots, and No7 Fabulously Firming Body Cream, which would have cost £8.

Some products were end of line, The Sun newspaper reported, but others were still on sale at Boots.

MoneySavingExpert founder Martin Lewis said value retailers’ own-label products are often made in the same factories as bigger brands but added: “It’s pretty tough to deny it’s the same product when it has the label on underneath.”

Boots is investigating, The Sun reported.
