Teenager Harris Aslam has launched a bid to become the next chief executive of £1.6bn convenience store giant Nisa Retail, replacing boss Neil Turton.
Aslam, 18, who already sits on the board of the member-owned business as a non-executive director, believes Nisa needs someone ‘young and passionate to take the business forward’, The Sunday Times reported.
The teenager worked for his family’s grocery business after leaving school aged just 13 and joined Nisa’s board just three years later. He is also a former member of B&Q’s Youth Board.
Nisa’s mutual model allows its hundreds of members to vote for the company directors. This enabled Aslam to win a place on the board after successfully lobbying Nisa’s grassroots members.
Turton revealed this month that he will be leaving Nisa after 23 years at the business.
Nisa marketing director Ian Bishop said: “Our chairman has put in place a robust recruitment strategy to find a chief executive with the right mix of experience and ambition for Nisa.
“Nisa has grown in partnership with its members and we will continue to support their growth by securing the best and most experienced management talent for our business.”
