Sainsbury’s chief executive Simon Roberts was among retailers whose achievements were recognised in the new year honours list.

Roberts, who has led Sainsbury’s since 2020, was made a CBE for services to the retail industry.
He steered the grocer through much of the disruptive Covid-19 period and has focused on a food-first strategy, which has brought increased market share.
Roberts was joined on the list by other retailers, including former Tesco chief customer officer Alessandra Bellini. A former president of the Advertising Association, Bellini was made an OBE for services to the advertising and marketing industry.
Bellini posted on LinkedIn: “I couldn’t have done it without those who believed in me more than I did, and the many brilliant colleagues, teams and friends I worked with, across countries over the years.”
Charles Tyrwhitt co-founder Peter Higgins was also made an OBE for services to commerce, entrepreneurship and education. Scamp & Dude founder Jo Tutchener-Sharp was made OBE for services to fashion and charity.
Prime minister Keir Starmer said: “This year’s honours list celebrates the very best of Britain – people who put the common good ahead of themselves to strengthen communities and change lives.
“Their quiet dedication speaks to the decent, compassionate country we are proud to be. On behalf of the whole nation, thank you – and congratulations to everyone recognised today.”
