Sainsbury’s becomes latest retailer to back ‘Respect Retail’ campaign

Sainsbury's

Grocery giant Sainsbury’s has become the latest retailer to back the Retail Trust’s ‘Respect Retail’ campaign aimed at getting customers to treat staff with “respect and kindness” and raise awareness of the impact of crime and abuse on shop workers.

Sainsbury’s joins hundreds of other retail and leisure businesses, including another recent backer Marks & Spencer, in backing the campaign which will kick off in November. They join shop workers union Usdaw, the Association of Convenience Stores and the National Business Crime Centre in showing the scale of retail abuse and crime, with more than 75% of shop workers reporting they faced some level of abuse from a customer last year.
