The challenge for retailers is making entry-level opportunities more accessible and valuable so young people see retail as somewhere they can build a career, believes Alvarez & Marsal’s Erin Brookes

Retail has long opened the door to working life for young people. Approximately 780,000 retail jobs – nearly 30% of the industry’s workforce – are held by 16- to 25-year-olds, with Saturday or summer jobs in supermarkets and shops across the country giving many a first step on the career ladder.
