Pret is increasing its pay for the third time in a year

As of April 1 this year, Pret’s shop staff, baristas and managers will receive an additional 3% increase on top of the 5% increase that came through in December.

The hourly rate for team members outside London will increase from £10.30 to £10.60, while those based within the M25 will increase from £11.55 to £11.90.

With a mystery shopping bonus, hourly pay could be between £12.45 and £14.10.

Barista pay will increase from between £10.85 and £12.50 hourly to between £11.50 and £12.85, or up to £14.10 with a mystery shopping bonus, which according to Pret will make them amongst the highest-paid in the industry.

The latest rise means average base pay for shop staff has increased by 19% in the year to April, while entry-level pay will have increased 15% year on year to above £12 when including the mystery shopper bonus.

Pret UK and Ireland interim managing director Guy Meakin said: “We’re proud to be making another significant investment in our people’s success and wellbeing.

“Whether it’s paying above the national minimum wage, providing career development opportunities or leading the industry on barista pay, we’re committed to making Pret a rewarding and supportive place to work for all our teams and paying the best we can afford to.

“Our people work incredibly hard to make Pret such a well-loved place on the high street and we wanted to thank them for their continued energy and commitment. As the cost of living continues to rise, we hope this latest increase in pay, and our expanded benefits package, goes some way in providing further support for our hard-working teams.”

The retailer is also rolling out a new discount portal as part of its staff benefits scheme, which will allow staff to get a discount on food and essentials.
