The founder and chief executive of OnBuy has been named chief executive of Comet following the online marketplace’s acquisition of the brand last week.

Cas Paton announced the news on LinkedIn and shared that he has become the new boss at Comet, effective immediately.
He said: “I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as chief executive officer at Comet.
“Thank you for all of the nice messages of support. I won’t let you down with Comet!”
Paton has stepped into the role after it was announced last week that OnBuy had acquired the British electronics brand in a bid to “disrupt the UK consumer electronics market”.
OnBuy snapped up Comet from Misco Technologies and confirmed plans to relaunch the brand during the fourth quarter of 2025.
OnBuy plans to invest £10m into the Comet brand as part of its long-term growth strategy. Comet will be fully integrated into OnBuy’s marketplace network to make use of its tech infrastructure.
The news comes after the marketplace reported a 50% year-on-year sales increase between January 20 and April 28, and saw a “record-breaking year” with £150m in UK sales in 2024.
Paton said: “Comet is a brand long associated with offering the very best deals in home appliances and consumer electronics. Its heritage is one that we want to protect and enhance using our innovative technology and business model.
“We’re not just reviving a name; we’re reimagining what trusted electronics retail looks like in a digital-first economy.”
