Sam Perkins is stepping down as chief executive after almost four years at the helm

Perkins took to LinkedIn to announce his exit from the high-end furniture business today (May 12), where he joined in 2023.

He wrote: “Today I announced to the company that I’ll be leaving Loaf later this month. It’s been a brilliant 3.5 years made so by the hugely knowledgeable and passionate Loaf team and our wonderful customers.”

Before joining Loaf, Perkins was the boss of fashion retailer In The Style. He also spent seven years at The Very Group, with three years as managing director of retail, and earlier in his career held a variety of commercial and marketing roles in Tesco, including UK commercial director of One Stop.

“There is much I’ve been very fortunate to experience and learn during my time leading Loaf,” he wrote.

“One thing stands out. AI is fast becoming the most disruptive and exciting force that our industry has ever witnessed. Yet from what I’ve seen, at the same time, customers and colleagues want more than ever to spend their (precious) time – virtual and in real life – with brands with whom they feel they belong. And of course, these two trends are not unrelated. I can’t think of anything more rewarding – professionally and personally – than striving to create this feeling. It’s always been important in retail; in my view, it’s now essential.

“A heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in Loaf, and I look forward to seeing what’s yet to come.”

Perkins was brought in to run Loaf in 2023, a year after the investment firm Blue Coast Capital, which is connected to members of River Island’s Lewis family, took a majority stake.

Perkins took over from Charlie Marshall, who founded the business in 2008, and remains a significant shareholder and brand guardian.

Loaf has not yet confirmed if a new chief executive has been appointed.
