Department stores veteran Andrew Jennings is being wooed for a top role at German retailer Karstadt, it is understood.
Jennings, who has held senior roles at retailers including Harrods, Saks Fifth Avenue and Holt Renfrew, would be charged with reviving Karstadt, which was rescued from insolvency by billionaire investor Nicolas Berggruen in June.
At Karstadt Jennings would potentially replace chief executive Thomas Fox, a restructuring specialist parachuted in during the retailer’s difficulties.
Karstadt said it would strengthen its management with “a trade expert who is expected to take over a year from now or after upcoming renovation and development steps.” Last month Fox said he expects Karstadt to have a better Christmas this year.
No comment was available from Karstadt or Jennings.
