The Retail Trust has appointed former Adams Childrenswear boss Richard Boland as it new chief executive, replacing Nigel Rothband.

Boland will join the industry charity on November 12.

Boland’s experience - he is a former chief executive of Freemans Mail Order and greetings cards specialist Birthdays and held roles at GUS and C&A - will bring “energy, drive and vision” to the charity, said Retail Trust chairman John Lovering.

“He has a commitment to the goals we have set and will build strong links to our funding partners in and supplying the retail industry,” Lovering added. “He will also build links with other organisations concerned with the welfare of those people who are working in the retail industry. He has long been committed to the welfare of those who live in our network of care homes across the UK.”

Boland has been a long-term supporter of the Retail Trust’s work, including organising The Northern Ball.

Boland said: “This is probably the most challenging time for our industry of the last 30 years. The sterling work done by Retail Trust with the ongoing support of the sector is more relevant today than at any time in its recent history.

“I look forward to engaging with friends old and new alike as we move forward in our ambition to offer support across as wide a spectrum as possible to all involved with our great industry.”
