David McCabe started working at Ikea in 1996 at its Lakeside store

David McCabe will take over from Peter Jelkeby as country retail manager and chief sustainability officer for the UK and Ireland from July 1.

McCabe is currently the global fulfilment and core services manager at Ingka Group. Jelkeby recently started his new role leading Ikea Germany

The retailer said that McCabe “brings a wealth of global experience to the role”, having started with the business in 1996 at Ikea Lakeside. His 30-year career has since involved leadership roles in Europe and North America across divisions including expansion, commercial, logistics, innovation and retail management.

He was commercial manager for the UK and Ireland in 2019, and then moved to Ikea Czhusk (Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia) where he was country manager for four years before taking on his current role with Ingka Group.

McCabe said: “It is a true honour to be rejoining the UK and Ireland team. So much has changed since I started my Ikea career three decades ago in the Lakeside store, but the constant has always been the fantastic people who bring our culture to life. I have been continually impressed by the team’s achievements. Now, together, we have a great opportunity to shape the future of Ikea in the UK and Ireland, as we continue to strengthen our focus on becoming even more accessible, affordable and sustainable for our customers.”
