The ex-boss of Poundland has taken up a new role.
Austin Cooke, who left Poundland last month, has become managing director, trade, at Howdens.
Cooke shared news of his appointment on LinkedIn, saying he was “thrilled” to be joining and adding: “Howdens is a company with a rich history, starting from a single founder in 1995.
“The fantastic culture at Howdens is something you can see, hear, and feel. Over the past few months, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting many of the team, and I am excited to get started.”
Howdens has approximately 850 depots and turns over £2bn annually. The group is run by Andrew Livingston, a former chief executive of Screwfix.
Cooke became managing director of Poundland in 2023. His recent departure followed a difficult period for Poundland, and the return of ex-boss Barry Williams to address its problems.
Poundland parent Pepco is expected to reveal its plans for business next week, when it holds a capital markets day.
