Burberry has finally confirmed that its boss Angela Ahrendts has now left the business to join Apple, six months after announcing she was leaving.

Design director Christopher Bailey is succeeding her at the British luxury brand, as revealed in October.

Ahrendts is going to Apple to run its retail stores, and had previously refused to reveal the date of her departure. She is credited with overhauling Burberry’s fortunes and turning it into one of the world’s most successful luxury brands.

The confirmation of Ahrendts’ departure follows weeks of speculation as Burberry refused to confirm her departure date amid talk of there being a disagreement over what level of payout she would receive.

Bailey will hold the chief executive role as well as his former chief creative officer positon.
