Retail sales cool as blazing hot summer ends
UK consumer demand cooled in August, as a summer marked by relentless heatwaves drew to an end.
Food sales increased by 2.6% during the period, compared to 4.7% growth in August 2025. This was also below the 12-month average growth of 3.2%.
