Halfords’ new distribution centre has disrupted supply to stores, according to the Daily Mail.

Store managers told the newspaper that since the new facility opened in July, stock has been in short supply, with deliveries sporadic.

One store manager said: “Some lorries are turning up missing a third of our stock. It has seen sales nosedive.”

Another suffering similar problems said they believed stores across the estate were being affected.

The car parts and bikes retailer revealed plans to shut its Oxford and Redditch DCs in order to consolidate its operations into the Coventry site.

Halfords estimates the new centre will make savings of £4m a year by 2011.
