Former Kingfisher chief executive Gerry Murphy was paid more than ÂŁ1.6 million in his last year with the business.

Kingfisher’s report and accounts, issued yesterday, show that Murphy received a basic salary of£925,000 and a bonus of£326,000, with other benefits making up the balance.

The report also revealed that Murphy’s compensation package on leaving Kingfisher could top£1.7 million, plus a further pension supplement of as much as£248,000.

Murphy left Kingfisher in February and has moved into the private equity sphere, working with Blackstone. His replacement, former chief executive of Kingfisher subsidiary B&Q Ian Cheshire, was paidÂŁ550,000 last year.
